....Tin Man, SCI FI Channel's re-imagining of the "Wonderful Wizard of Oz" that airs for three consecutive nights starting Dec. 2, is a visual feast. A few of the special effects are a tad cheesy but generally the production values - the sets and backdrops in particular - are gorgeous.
The cast is top notch. Richard Dreyfuss puts in a decent albeit limited appearance. Alan Cumming as Glitch, a scientist missing half his brain, makes the best of his lines. Hands down, the most appealing - shining through his prosthetic make-up to tug at the heart strings - is the Apache/Ute actor Raoul Trujillo as Raw, the wolverine (or Lion).....
However, the overlay of glittery production values cannot disguise Tin Man’s core problem: lame dialog and plot devices lifted straight from the Grand List of Overused Science Fiction Cliches.
Well, this is refreshing! Kudos to SCI FI.
On Saturday, Nov. 24, during one of the biggest premiere events of the year for the channel - the two-hour extended episode of Battlestar Galactica: Razor - the network will unveil a new public service announcement (PSA) from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD).
Battlestar Galactica star Jamie Bamber (Lee “Apollo” Adama) appears in the 20-second "Be an Ally & a Friend" spot, along with Jerry O'Connell (Carpoolers, Sliders), Jason Lewis (Brothers & Sisters) and Eric Mabius (Ugly Betty).
Universal Media Studios is reported to have issued force majeure letters.
Yesterday NBC announced a deal to acquire the Internet series Quarterlife....
According to the NY Times: Ben Silverman, Chairman of NBC Entertainment, and one of the shows creators, Marshall Herskovitz, described the deal as a revolutionary step in the creation of television entertainment....
Stated the NYT: the series is “not affected by the writers’ strike because of the unique ownership structure.”
It may have been an innocent mistake.
Current TV just aired Heroes of the Writers' Strike, a fun vid made by some striking writers.
The problem: an key line was deleted in the Current version.
Variety thinks the WGA isn’t communicating effectively, a curious position after the prez of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers Nick Counter engaged in name calling.
("Honestly, could the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have found a worse spokesman than Nick Counter?" asked the Kansas City Star's television cric Aaron Barnhart.)
Yet, the Internet is loaded with information and the issue is crystal. The strike is all about digital residuals - plain and simple.
As of tonight the Democratic council members are On Notice!
(photo: fake board created by me on the On Notice Generator Board.)
Stephen Colbert’s request to be included on the Democratic ballot in the South Carolina presidential primary has been rejected by the party's executive council.
It begs the question: what are Democrats afraid of exactly?
Colbert’s antics ignited the electorate and injected energy into hyper-managed, over-coiffed, stultifying campaigns....
The press has lapped up Colbert’s candidacy and young voters stampeded into presidential politics. Talk about "not getting it" - by snubbing Colbert, the Dems just tossed away a golden opportunity to reach those young voters.
Just think how many people would tune into those tedious Democratic debates if Stephen Colbert leaped onto the stage with his bio-fueled leafblower – the one that runs on Al Gore's tears.
